Twix and Snickers are both made and marketed by Mars Inc., a worldwide manufacturer of confectionery and many other food products. Both these high selling world popular chocolate caramel bars are quite similar, yet distinct in many ways. Right from the early days of their origin they are no known as one of the most fast selling products in the confectionery segment of Mars, Inc. The underlying parameters highlight their presence in global arena of confectionery.

Twix bar was first launched in Europe in 1967, under brand name of Raiders. Later in 1979, it was finally launched in the U.S. as Twix Cookie Bar. Later in 1991, the company rebranded Raiders to Twix, in most parts of Europe so as to keep its brand identity in sync with international brand name in order to facilitate global marketing. In Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Norway, and Turkey the name Raider was changed to Twix in the year 2000.The manufacturing of Twix for U.S. audience stands in Cleaveland,Tennessee.


One Twix Bar has 284 calories (approx.28% more than average nutrition applicable inr Candy Bars) with a total fat content of 14 gm.  Additionally it’s each serving protein, carbohydrate, sugar and sodium content is 3 gm, 37 gm, 27 and 110 mg respectively. Its carbohydrate content is 9.1 grams more than the average carbohydrate contents in all Candy Bars.


TWIX has the highest variants in the whole of Candy Bar segment. Globally, it boasts of more than 25 variants. In 1930, Snickers was launched in the U.S, named after favorite horse of the Mars family. In the UK,Snickers was launched under the name Marathon chocolate. However in the 1990s, Mars Inc rebranded Marathon to be known as Snickers all over the world. Marathon chocolate bar carried tag ‘Internationally known as Snickers’ for 18 months prior to it getting renamed as Snickers.

One of the oldest brand in the range of confectionaries, it hails the most successful variants. Its variants still continue to flood the confectionary segment under the following names: Snickers Fudge, Snickers Maximus, Snickers Almond, Snickers Peanut Butter, Snickers Squared, Snickers Duo, Snickers Xtreme, Snickers Dark, Snickers Charged, Snickers The Lot, Snickers Crazy Peanuts, Snickers P'opables, Snickers miniatures in Celebrations, Snickers Gold, Snickers Cake and many more.


Snickers contains  nougat, caramel, peanuts all covered in chocolate coating, Containing around 16 peanuts in each bar, it Snickers is said to consume approximately 99 tons of peanuts in order to manufacture over 15 million Snickers bars each day.


Snickers have definitely grabbed the essence of brand personality. Along with celebrity endorsements the brand has tied up with sports events in a big way. In fact the spots which ran during Superbowl caught the frenzy of its fans to make it an instant hit. Also the words like, “Peanutopolis, Hungerectomy, Nougtocity, Substantialicious and Satisfectellent” on its outdoor billboard advertising campaign caught the attention of fans all over the US. Even though it belongs to the older generation of confectioneries, the fact that it still continues to attract younger generation, says much about the brand. Snickers do not linger on the health food platform, but definitely wraps a sporty aura around it. With celebrity endorsement campaigns, it continues to gain trust with popularity.

Twix, on the other hand, is an out and out brand made for the younger lot and teeny boppers. It does not indulge in mega sport events nor does it go for any celebrity endorsement. It maintains a low profile when compared to Snickers, yet a constant favorite with the segment it holds to draw.

Snickers all the way... love how they combine the peanuts and caramel!!... yummy.. "Eating a Snickers as I type"... !! P.S. their commercials Rule!! X-)
